Dealu Mare is a narrow band of south-facing slopes sheltered by the mountains to the north. Warmth, elevation and limestone soils together make it the country's leading red appellation.

The key local variety is Fetească Neagră, an indigenous red that now defines Romanian wine identity on export markets.

For a micro-production project the region is attractive for the density of estates and, consequently, the availability of grapes and rentable capacity.
